Those who are absent: should go to the link for Exam Review. You should print off the review page and neatly fill in the missing information in your own handwriting or printing (no typing on computer as handwriting or printing is the only way I know that the work is your own).. All problems(from bottom of the page) should be done on the reverse side of the page. If you cannot print off the review page, then please handwrite out the headings and look up the information(the old fashioned way). NBTA Union meeting
Chem 111 Students: Please note the following email that I have sent out to those who waited so long to let me know their project choice. Hi,
Just a quick email to let you know that the following choices are left.
Linear AX polar
Linear AX non-polar
Linear AX2 polar
Linear AX2 non-polar
V shaped with all 3 atoms the same...polar and no lone pairs around the middle
Trigonal planar-no lone pairs and polar
Tetrahedral nonpolar--> just chosen at 8:11 so no longer available
Octahedral polar--> this one has been chosen so no longer available
Square planar polar
Square planar non polar
I have received emails from various students since last Wednesday. Unfortunately if you are receiving this email right now it means that you waited until the last day to make your choice for this assignment and the choice you sent me was already chosen by someone(I has so many requesting trigonal planar and see saw and had to get several students to choose again). Could you let me know asap which of the above choices works for you.
On another note I was unable to check my email during the day as I had meetings today. I never imagined so many (8 students ) would not make a decision before today. This has never happened before.
Mrs Sanford

Sept 15-TuesdayChem 121-Well, we have gone through all of the families for organic that lead up to next week's test. We will be starting group work today and we will also do some Petroleum/Natural gas Chemistry from 22.5. You will be given time to read through 22.5 and do a guided reading exercise. this is to be completed for thursday. This will help you make up some notes on this section. We will go over some of the worksheet from yesterday. This worksheet is to be complete for wednesday. You found out who is in your group for your organic project. You will note that the details of this project are given in the Chem 121 link. an enlargement of the work from section 5 is also contained in the link.
Chem 122-Today we will do some more practise with heating and cooling curves. You will get some additional practise work for the heating and cooling curves and the next few topics we cover as the textbook does not contain enough practse on this topic and the remaining topics in the unit. Please do #21, #22a, b off of the worksheet for tomorrow.
Chem 112-Today you will get the opportunity to do a lab safety exercise in the lab for half of the class. Please review R 80-81 and be aware of the fact that there will be a quiz on lab safety and metric tomorrow. I will also give you an additional metric conversion practice sheet. Reminder Scientist Assignment involving being creative is due today. p 47 11 to 17 was also done today.
Sept 14-Monday
Chem 122-Today we went over heating curves. I fully labelled a curve for water with formulas, potential energy, states, kinetic energy. You are to do the same for ethanol(grain alcohol). I did not give you a mass in order for you to work out all five calculations for the cooling curve. I did not give you the starting or finishing temperature. YIKES!!! so if you happen to check this site out, assume the mass is 1.52 grams and that the starting temperature is 102C and the finishing temperature is -134C. I gave the bp and mp to you in class bp= 76C mp= -114C. You were given more time to complete the group work that you did last week.
Chem 121-Today you were introduced to aromatic hydrocarbons. This family will require quite a bit of study as this is the only way you will know their names and structures. You received a worksheet to practise all of the families we have done so far. Please do all of the odd numbered questions. We will be starting some project work this week. There will be a test on Ch 22 next monday or wednesday. Your drawings of the C8 isomers(all 18 of them) with names is due on wednesday.
Chem 112 P4,P5- Today we looked at the Quantum mechanical model of the atom. We looked at indicating the energy level, orbital and number of electrons in a partcular orbital. I introduced the diagonal rule to students. This section can be found in the textbook from page 164-166. Write the electron configuration for the following atoms. Period 4 was assigned Pd, Rn, U for homework. Period 5 was assigned Rn, As, Ag, U for homework. We checked over the work from last thursday p 42 #1-8 and p 160 #1 to 7.
Sept 11-Friday Chem 122-We did an example of a calculation involving a phase change. I assigned p 521 21, 22 and p 524 23, 24. we did some group work with enthalpy and heat flow today. You received some great tables for reference.(this will be passed out on monday....photocopier problems thanks Miss Logue for making a sheet of tables:)
Chem 121-Today we will go over cis and trans isomers(geometric), cycloalkanes as well as isomers of alkyl groups. P 707 #25 You will receive a worksheet for practising naming alkanes/enes/ynes over the weekend(this will be given on monday).
Chem 112 P4 We went over separation of matter today. I also explained that there was an assignment involving the scientists who worked with the atom. p 128-129, 144 contain the names and contributions of the scientists. the scientist name as well as their contribution have to be included in a creative way to help one study these scientists. This study device or aid is due next tuesday.

should go to the link for Exam Review. You should print off the review page and neatly fill in the missing information in your own handwriting or printing
(no typing on computer as handwriting or printing is the only way I know that the work is your own).. All problems(from bottom of the page) should be done on the reverse side of the page. If you cannot print off the review page, then please handwrite out the headings and look up the information(the old fashioned way).

NBTA Union meeting
Chem 111 Students: Please note the following email that I have sent out to those who waited so long to let me know their project choice.Hi,
Just a quick email to let you know that the following choices are left.
